Password Protected RAR File Causes a Loop in the Search Service and Uses 100% CPU Load When Indexed

Overview

This article provides a solution to situations when the Search service tries to index an email with a password protected RAR file but got caught in a loop and is using 100% CPU load.

Information

This issue applies to GFI Archiver version 20130510. The following symptoms are typical of this issue:

 

  1. Marc.Search.exe is using 100% CPU load.
  2. The Search\Debuglogs\RarFile.log log shows "Skipped (unsupported type)" continuously.

Process

To fix this issue, you can either apply the MARC20130530_01 patch (attached in this article) or update to version 20130704 or earlier.
