Enabling Journal for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016.
Introduction
Archiver supports connecting to Exchange servers via the EWS connection and utilizes the built in Journaling options to centralize mail to a single mailbox. This allows Archiver to gather the mail from a single mailbox for the entire organization.
Choosing a Journal Method:
- Choose standard journal to archive all emails (inbound and outbound) for all users in your organization.
- Choose premium journal if you want more control over the emails to archive (e.g. only for specific users or for inbound or outbound only).
NOTE: Premium journal requires a Microsoft® Exchange Enterprise client access license.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Standard journal: | This feature enables the configuration of a Mailbox store that enables the recording of email in an organization. GFI Archiver can use Microsoft® Exchange Server journal to centralize all the emails to archive in a single mailbox. This type of journal is also called per-mailbox database journal. |
Premium journal: | Only available with the Microsoft® Exchange Server Enterprise client access license. It enables an administrator to setup custom journal rules such as Archive only incoming emails, Archive only outgoing emails or Archive emails for a particular group. This journal is also called per-recipient journal. GFI Archiver utilizes this type of journal by detecting and displaying these rules in the Data Sources Configuration Wizard. |
Description
The below information references steps to be performed outside of Archiver itself. These settings need to be applied within your Exchange environment to enable Journal mailbox connectivity which allows the Archiver system to perform Auto-Archiving.
Enabling Journal for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016:
-
Installations running Microsoft® Exchange Server 2007 SP2 or later can use the GFI Archiver Post-Installation wizard to automatically create the required journal mailbox
