Overview
When updating MailArchiver from one build or version to another, the installation fails and displays an error 1603 message. The marc*.log file shows:
The file C:\Program Files\GFI\MailArchiver\Core\bin\Store.Core.dll is being held in use. Close that application and retry. MSI (s) (98:D8) [15:10:17:082]: Product: GFI MailArchiver.
The file C:\Program Files\GFI\MailArchiver\Core\bin\Store.Core.dll is being used by the following process: Name: MArc.Core , Id 1484. MSI (s) (98:D8) [15:10:17:082]: Product: GFI MailArchiver.
The file C:\Program Files\GFI\MailArchiver\Core\bin\Store.Core.dll is being used by the following process: Name: MArc.MAIS, Id 1668. MSI (s) (98:D8) [15:10:17:082]: Product: GFI MailArchiver.
The file C:\Program Files\GFI\MailArchiver\Core\bin\Store.Core.dll is being used by the following process: Name: MArc.Store, Id 1764.

Root Cause
Corrupted files or corrupted installation.
Resolution
- Stop all MailArchiver services.
- Rename the MailArchiver folder.
- Go ahead with the update.
- Copy the Core\Data\MarcSettings.xml file from the old to the new installation to restore the old configuration.
