Overview
Folder structure retrieval is used to replicate the folder structure of the original mailbox(s). SInce this feature is not enabled by default, it must be enabled for it to be functional This article details the steps to enable folder structure retrieval in GFI Archiver.
Prerequisites
Follow the setting correct permissions for mailbox folder structure retrieval article for setting up correct permissions for the user selected in the steps below.
Solution
Enabling Folder Structure Retrieval
- Open the GFI Archiver website. (http(s)://hostname/Archiver by default)
- Select Configuration tab and click Mailbox Folder Structure Retrieval.
- Select Change Settings.
- Select Enable folder structure retrieval.
- Select whether to automatically create a new user account or whether to use an existing user account. This user account will be used to access the mailboxes for which to replicate the folder structure.
The table below shows a list of available options.
Create a new user account Instructs GFI Archiver to create a new user account using the provided details in the Connect using, Login and Password fields. Use an existing user account Instructs GFI Archiver to use an existing user account that was previously created. Connect using Defines the connection method used to connect to the Microsoft Exchange Server to access the mailbox structure to retrieve.
Available options:
- Exchange Web Services (EWS) - Recommended for Microsoft Exchange server 2007 SP1, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 mail servers.
- Traditional Message Application Porgramming Interface (MAPI) - Recommended for NON Microsoft Exchange server 2007 SP1 or 2010 mail servers.
Login Enter the Login name that will be used for the new account to create or for the previously created account. Password Defines the Password used for the new account of for the previously created account. - Click Next to continue setup. If in the previous screen you have selected Create a new user account, you will be asked to provide the user credentials of the domain administrator account with the rights to create the account.
- Click Finish to finalize setup
Disabling Folder Structure Retrieval
- Select Configuration tab and click Mailbox Folder Structure Retrieval.
- Click Disable Folder Structure Retrieval.
Note: Disabling Folder Structure Retrieval does not delete or disable the user account previously created for this feature.
Confirmation
Once folder structure retrieval is enabled and synchronization has started, when mail is being viewed on the archive tab, the folder structure should be present.
- Launch the web console for GFI Archiver
- Select the Archive tab
- Search for mail and confirm the folder structure is present
