Overview

This article provides information about the use of the auditing features in GFI Archiver databases.

Information

To use the audit features in GFI Archiver, the audit data must be stored in a Microsoft SQL Server (it can also be stored in the Express Edition). Two different audit modes can be enabled independently from each other, please read below:

• Database Activity Auditing uses the tracing capabilities of Microsoft SQL Server to record all the activity affecting the archive store databases. This auditing mode can only be used for archive stores of these types:
  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server with File Storage (GFI MailArchiver 2014 or later only)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Express with File Storage (GFI Archiver 2014 or later only)
• User Interaction Auditing allows you to record all activity that happens through the GFI Archiver web interface. This activity is logged into the Microsoft SQL Server database and viewed from the Reports node within the GFI Archiver web interface. This auditing mode can be used in combination with all archive store types.

Note: If a combination of Archive Stores is being used (both Firebird and Microsoft SQL Server), all user activity on the GFI Archiver web interface is logged, even if these actions are performed on a Firebird database.
