Overview

This article describes the error and its resolution, which occurs when trying to add a mailbox via the Outlook Connector, and the following error is shown:
An unknown error occurred, error code: 0x80040605

The GFI Archiver mailbox does not appear, and the GFI Archiver toolbar is grayed out.

Environment

• GFI Archiver
• Outlook Connector

Root Cause

The MAPI installation is corrupt.

Resolution

To resolve the issue, follow one of the methods mentioned below:

• Tested Solution
  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Run the command: fixmapi
     Note: No further output is shown, the cursor will jump into the next line.
  3. Uninstall Outlook Connector.
  4. Reinstall Outlook Connector.
     
     
• Risky Solution
  IMPORTANT: The procedure below contains steps to delete files which form part of the MAPI installation. A customer reported these steps to fix the issue successfully, but we have neither replicated the situation in-house nor guarantee that this is completely safe. Please do not try this on a server, as damaging MAPI might have a more severe impact on such a system. In any case, ensure that you back up the system before making this change.
  1. Ensure that Outlook is closed.
  2. Open the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI
  3. Move all files out of this folder into a backup folder.
  4. Uninstall Outlook Connector.
  5. Reinstall Outlook Connector.
