Overview
It's been reported that when editing the Mailboxes to archive, the (restrictions) list appears empty and does not show existing records. Moreover, there are no debug logs which point towards this situation.
This article explains why this issue occurs and how you can troubleshoot it.
Important Note: Be careful when saving the empty list as it would overwrite existing entries.
Environment
Versions / Builds Affected 20130704, 20130723, 20131111
Root Cause
This happens when the list contains a user name with a:
- Single inverted comma (') character (e.g., Adrian D'Agata).
- Double inverted comma (") character (e.g. Joseph D"Emanuele).
Resolution
This is a known bug which was resolved in:
- MARC 2013 R2 for single inverted commas.
- MARC2014 build 20140616 for double inverted commas.
Upgrade to a newer build to fix this issue or make use of either of the following workarounds:
- Make use of groups in the Mailboxes to archive lists and maintain their members rather than the list in Mail Archiver.
- Or edit the display names of the users to remove inverted comma characters in it in AD (Active Directory).
- Note: You can also check
ASPNET\UI\Debuglogs\webhelper.log
for display names which contain the inverted comma characters.
